From trdelníky to goulash: the hunt for traditional Czech food in Prague.

Farmer’s plate. Pork neck, pork chop, smoked brisket, sausage, two kinds of cabbage, and three kinds of dumplings. ~$10. Plus two pints of Staropramen 12°. Restaurace U Parlamentu.

Pickled sausage. Klasterni Pivovar, brewery just above the Prague castle.

Giant ham hock. Klasterni Pivovar, brewery just above the Prague castle.

Snack stand at the bottom of the hill below Prague castle.

Having a beer and coffee across the street from the Kafka statue downtown.

Nostress coffee. Across from the Kafka statue downtown.

Pickled cheese.

Goulash with bread dumplings.

Trdelníky. Pastry dough roasted on a tube then filled with ice cream and topped. You find these stands all over. There’s usually a sign depicting the spiraled tube.

Beer cheese with fried bread.

Cute little ice cream truck.

Umodre Kachnicky

Restaurant specializing in duck. I chose the tasting menu.

The Hemingway Bar

Cute little bar with a great absinthe menu and creative cocktails. Definitely one of my top three bars in Prague.

The Chili Bar

The Chili bar is a tiny bar hidden away in a hard to find alley quite close to the square.  One of my top three bars in Prague.

Old fashioned.

My dark little cubby where I liked to drink and write.

The Chili Bar is at the far end of the alley there.

The Cocktail Bar

Another hole in the wall place that I really liked.  Far from the tourist traffic.

Where am I now?

Eugene, OR

(We’ve reached the end of our trip.  Time to settle down for a bit and recharge our batteries and our bank accounts.  It’s been a good run.  Eugene had the right kind of vibe we were looking for.  Good people.  A good size.  Affordable.  We’re going to give it a go here.  But we’re open to what comes.)

Next up:

Nowhere for the moment

(For the first time in three years we don’t have the next adventure planned out.  That’s going to be a strange reality to adjust to.)
